As a scientist I enjoy experimenting with different media and techniques. The ancient art of encaustic (beeswax) painting, used by the Egyptians, allows me to meld oil-based media and some dry- and alcohol-based media (charcoal, pastel, oil paint, oil sticks, inks, etc.) into a cohesive piece of art with a variety of exciting effects. The results yield textures and shapes that are difficult to achieve with any single medium.

I am excited to play with this process more in the near future.
